Today is the last day of July and I cannot believe how quickly the month has gone. We have had two friends visit us this month, which means we have also been able to do some exploring in Switzerland. A very odd (and probably slightly overpriced visit was the Weber Skulpturpark in Dietikon near Zurich. This place is like a mixture of Pan’s Labyrinth meets The Never Ending Story. There are a lot of strange designs and mythical creatures created by the sculptor.
July has also moved very quickly because it seems that our time in Switzerland is running out. In September we will be leaving Switzerland and making our way back to Australia to live. It will be hard to say goodbye to this country that has been my home for six years, but I am looking forward to new adventures.
Despite the big changes happening in my personal life, July has also gifted me some pretty amazing things and I wanted share my favourites with you.
July has had a few amazing releases and it is hard to narrow it down to just one. The last season of “Orange Is The New Black” came out at the end of July and I haven’t finished watching it yet, but I feel like this one will definitely be a favourite for next month. So, with that in mind, the winner for my favourite T.V. show this month has to be the new season “Queer Eye”. If you want some nice warm and fuzzy T.V. with people loving and supporting each other then, this is the show. I love the way the Fab 5 break down stereotypes of toxic masculinity and give men and women the tools to open up themselves and improve their lives.
Again, this summer is shaping up to be a great one for music, but my favourite song for July would have to be a song by A-WA. A-WA is a trio of three sisters. They are Yemenite-Israeli Mizrahi Jews who sing in Arabic. They reinvent old Yemeni folk songs and sing about their experiences as refugees in Israel. They have spoken up about the treatment of Arabs in Israel and immigration in the country. Their song, “Hana Mash Hu Al Yaman” is sang in Arabic with subtitles in English. They talk about their homeland and the plight of refugees. It is a powerful song with impactful lyrics, not to mention a really nice beat.
My favourite beauty item for July is something that I have been using for a few months now and it is a natural deodorant cream.
When I was first told about natural deodorant I was skeptical. Even though I am not someone who sweats a lot in the summer, I wasn’t really sure how a cream under my pits was going to cut it. In the past, I have had a lot of problems with ‘normal’ deodorants drying out my skin and causing rashes so I figured I would give something different a try.
You only need a small amount on your fingers to rub under your arms or anywhere else you would like to add deodorant. My cream is unscented, which suits me fine. I like that a little goes a long way, the packaging is aluminium (easy to recycle), and it really lasts a long time. I have had this since April and I still have so much product left.
My only small gripe with the product is that the lid can sometimes get a bit stuck. I think this is mainly because the cream can get on the sides of the lid, but it is still fairly easy to remove the lid if you twist it as you pull it up. The best thing about this product is that it works. If you are thinking of trying out a natural deodorant, then see if you can get your hands on GOOD + CLEAN.
My favourite stationery item for the month of July also happens to be a late birthday gift I received from a friend. I love to read, in case you didn’t know, which means I love me a good bookmark. I absolutely love my little cactus bookmark here and since receiving it, I haven’t used any other bookmark.
So these are my favourites from July, 2019. What did you love in the month of July. Everything mentioned above is not sponsored and the products mentioned, except for my birthday gift, were purchased by me. As always, share the reading love.
